MS PPE Sample Questions
The MS PPE Analysis is composed of 25 questions that test and evaluate all the most critical areas in premise, platform, and novel execution that an aspiring author must take into account and successfully resolve if she or he is serious about commercial publication. The results of the analysis provide writers with a much needed reality check on their work-in-progress. Follow-up on critical areas can save many months if not years of time-wasting rewrites. Writers who score highly will be connected to attending agents prior to arrival at the conference.
(PLEASE NOTE: you are not expected to be able to completely answer all of the questions--you do what you can and use it as a learning tool to become a more competitive writer)
Sample questions as follows:
- Include a detailed description of a complex object, person, or event.
- Describe the goals or agenda of your antagonist in 50 words or less.
- What authors or novels realistically compare to your writing style and/or novel premise?
- Include a sample of first or third person interior monologue, not to exceed 100 words.
- Describe your novel/story in 60 words or less without giving away the climax.
e.g., In 1813, Captain Horatio Gates takes command of the USS Constitution and discovers he must not only defeat British forces before they can attack Washington, but also tame his rebellious crew and its leader, as well as his own dangerous pride lately revealed to him by his love, Melanie Madison, the spirited daughter of President Madison.

NOTE: writers who score highly on the pre-conference MS PPE test will be connected with agents prior to their arrival at the conference and receive a free pass to the NYC Pitch Conference in 2010 to meet publishing house editors. |
