THE SAN FRANCISCO WRITE AND PITCH
November 12-14, 2010 . All Genres . Agents/Faculty
Pre-Event Assignments and MS PPEC Analysis
Following registration, the W&PC conference pre-screens your novel (sample questions here), work-in-progress, or story concept, thus giving you an important feel for the areas in need of improvement before you arrive at the event. Also, prior to arrival, participants are provided with an 80 page manual, the "Algonkian Competitive Fiction Guide," necessary to learn the valuable structure and narrative techniques needed to create a competitive novel manuscript that agents and editors want to see. Lastly, participants are given a list of important readings and other miscellaneous assignments involving premise, plot, and character development.
 |
NOTE: writers who score highly on the pre-conference MS PPE test will be connected with agents prior to their arrival at the conference and receive a free pass to the NYC Pitch Conference in 2010 to meet publishing house editors. |
Details on the MS PPEC and the Algonkian study guide as follows.

MS/Novel Premise-Platform-Execution Check |
 |
The MS PPEC is an editor-designed Q&A and text-field screen for novel pre-submission purposes, work-in-progress reality checks, and simply for testing story ideas for market compatibility.
The MS PPEC is also for use by W&PC particpants who wish to get professional reaction to their story idea, complete novel, or work-in-progress. The form is submitted by Internet and reviewed by editors in the NYC publishing world (Julie Doughty, Michael Neff, Charles Salzberg - see faculty page). The results provide writers with needed feedback regarding the competitiveness of their current novel or concept, and in the areas of platform (credentials now desired by publishing world), premise (story idea/premise, high concept, plot, dramatic complication, etc.), and execution (multiple prose examples, novel opening, dialogue, etc.).
The web address for the form is sent to participants following registration. Participation in the process is at the discretion of the writer, but it is highly recommended. All results are completely confidential and no information is shared with any third parties. Sample questions can be found here. |

Algonkian Competitive Fiction Guide |
 |
The ACF Guide does not derive its substance from other books on writing, but contains unique insights and information gathered from years in the business of fiction writing and the marketing of same. The various types of structural and narrative craft contained in this manual can be found on the W&PC schedule page.
The craft and market notes contained therein are used for purposes of clarification and reference during conference Q&A, presentations and discussions. This guide can also be used following the conference, and indefinitely afterwards since it provides check-lists and exercises for use when drafting future manuscripts. |
